What are AVI reading levels?
AVI reading levels indicate how difficult a book is. And the updated levels are:
- Start – beginning readers
- Plus – slightly more difficult than Start
- Extra – just above Start/Plus
- Middle (M) – average level
- End (E) – highest level of the group

How do you choose a book by AVI-level?
- Check the AVI recommendation on the book, for example AVI Start, M3 or E4.
- So choose a book that is slightly below or equal to the current AVI reading level of your child.
- And for an extra challenge, a book can be one level higher, but only if the child already reads independently.
- So let your child read a bit to check if the book is going smoothly.
- And choose books that match your child's interests to keep reading fun.
